In St. George, you can access Barbados’ oldest plantation, the Drax Hall House.

In St. Philip, you must visit the Sam Lord’s Castle. Built in 1820 by the famous pirate, it now hosts a hotel but you can still admire the original gildings and mahogany paneling and stroll through 30 hectares of beaches and gardens with scattered pools and fountains.

In St. John, you can explore the Villa Nova Estate, another of Barbados’ interesting plantation.

In St. Joseph, the nature lovers will love the 3 hectares Andromeda Botanic Gardens, and their famous French-style gardens perched on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

The nature is also most beautiful on the Bathsheba Coast, where Bajans spend their weekends to relax from a long workweek. In St. Peter, the animals still roam free in the forest of cashew trees of the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, where you will see green monkeys, otters, mongooses, porcupines and stags.

In St. Lucy, on Barbados’s northernmost tip, you can explore the Animal Flower Cave and discover ponds invested by the tide where the marine life is flourishing. You will also get wonderful views of the ocean and especially of the magnificent cave entrance.

For a relaxing experience or fun times, beach lovers can choose from 70 square miles of sand beaches, from the invigorating waves of the Atlantic coast to the calm waters of the Caribbean sea on the west coast. You either will bask in the sun on Barbados’ peaceful beaches of fine golden sand that earned it the nickname of Gold Coast or go for a dip in this swimmers’ paradise. Whatever you decide to do, all the surrounding elements, the tender breeze, the cooling shade of a palm tree, the lush forest around and the rocky coast colored from pale rose to pure white depending on the lighting are an ideal setting for you to relax and enjoy your vacation.

The West coast offers you white sand beaches and clear waters with a large selection of waterfront resort and hotels all offering South and all inclusive vacation packages. The most popular spot are: In St. James, Batts Rock, Payne’s Bay and Folkestone Park and, South of Bridgetown, Gibb’s Beach, Mullin’s Bay and Carlisle Bay.

On the South coast, meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, the Silver Sands Beach covers the southernmost tip of the island. When you go back towards Bridgetown, you will also find Dover, Rockley and Needham's Point.

The east coast on the Atlantic Ocean is totally different from the two other sides. Here, magnificent beaches are nestled between spectacular rock formations on an ocean with strong waves. You can still bask in the warm sun and even swim on Crane Beach, near Sam Lord’s Castle or on Culpepper Island, near St. Philip.

A wide range of sporting activities is available to tourists on vacation in Barbados. The large beaches and clear waters are an ideal setting for water sports enthusiasts. Barbados is known worldwide as a top ten destination for diving aficionados. A full selection of packages is offered to divers who want to discover the coral reefs and shipwrecks lying on the sea floor. If you simply want to explore or if you want to try your hand at submarine spear fishing, the turquoise waters are full of surprises event for the most adventurous vacationers. Surfing and sail boarding are also well represented, as Barbados hosts several international competitions. Sailboarders will love the Silver Sands Beach on the southern tip of the island while surfers will prefer the « Soup Bowl » waves of Bathsheba of the east coast, a real surfer’s paradise. Sailing is not in rest as Barbados is slowly becoming a destination of choice for international sailors and is one of the locals’ favorite leisure activities. If sport fishing is your passion, Barbados offer plenty of fish to catch, from the always tough blue-fined marlin (mostly during the winter months), the gilt-head sea bream and the tuna on high seas to the barracuda and the mackerel closer to shore. Two world-class golf courses await the golf player on vacation. If you still have not found an interesting sport to practice, you can play tennis, croquet or badminton or go skeet shooting. If you prefer to watch, you can discover the world of cricket, Barbados’ national sport, by attending a game between world-class teams. Other popular sports in Barbados include football, polo, horseracing and strangely enough, goat racing. If you love horseback riding on paths or simply cross-country, you can find a horse to ride in one of the many renowned stables as horseback riding has a long standing tradition in Barbados. You can also go biking if you so desire.

First catch the fiery sunset and then discover Barbados by night: Waterfront restaurants, dance clubs, show bars, concert halls and game rooms will open their doors to you, not to mention the thousand or so rum bars. The nightlife in Barbados is a swirl of dancing and singing of wonderfully mixed origins: British, French, Spanish and African. Several restaurants offer the « dinner and show » package and there are still more pleasant outings available: you could take in a musical and dance act re-enacting the life on the island of a past era with all the employees wearing historical attire or you could go to a restaurant, in a manor setting, offering a 7-course meal, a reminder of the feast served in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinborough during their last official visit in Barbados.
